Sinharadzha Forest Reserve – the last of the tropical rain forests of Sri Lanka, is located in the southwestern part of Sri Lanka, northeast of Galle. There are many rare and endemic species of birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and butterflies. This reserve is sometimes called the “Kingdom of the Lion”, it is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Slovak Karst is a picturesque mountain range in Eastern Slovakia, which is famous for its unique forms of karst topography, beautiful canyons and clear mountain rivers. The natural territory began to be protected in 1973, and in 2002, a national park was created here that has the status of a biosphere reserve. Since the mid-1990s, karst caves are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The yew-box grove is a picturesque part of the Kolkhida forest, which is located on the southeastern slopes of Akhun mountain in the Khostinsky district of the Big Sochi resort. The nature monument occupies an area of 301 hectares and is part of the Caucasus Biosphere Reserve. Thousands of yew yews, Caucasian endemic plants and relict species that have survived on Earth since preglacial times grow here. For most of the year, the yew-boxwood grove is filled with bird singing. In the protected forest there are more than 50 rare species of flora and fauna under protection. The territory of the grove is unique and is included in the UNESCO list of natural World Heritage sites. Continue reading
